It was first announced this morning by Jude La Cava that the Phoenix Suns and Alvin Gentry have mutually decided to part ways after the Suns fell to last place in the Western Conference last night. The Suns are currently 13-28 which is bad enough for the fourth worse record in the NBA and last in the Western Conference.

Gentry was in the last year of his contract and it was considered doubtful he would ever get another extension after failing to get to the playoffs the last two seasons. Gentry was 171 and 144 in 4 and a half seasons as the Suns coach. In 2010 he led the Suns to the Western Conference Finals before falling in six games to the Los Angeles Lakers. The Suns have not named an interim coach, but it is believed to be someone already on the staff. Suns President Lon Babby will meet with the media at 3:30 Arizona time.
