On the old video game NBA Jam, when a player hit 3 straight three pointers he became on "fire" for an extended period of time. What would happen after 6 straight three pointers is the question Shannon Brown would like to know.
The Phoenix Suns defeated the Charlotte Bobcats 117-110 on Wednesday night in Charlotte thanks to Shannon Brown's 4th quarter shooting. Brown was perfect from the three point line in the 4th quarter making all 6 of his three point shots to lead the Suns in scoring with 24 points and hold off a scrappy Bobcats team.
The Suns used a big first half from Michael Beasley and Marcin Gortat to race out to a 14 point lead in the first half. Beasley had 16 of his 21 points in the first half on 7-21 shooting. He also led the team in rebounding with 15 rebounds. Gortat got his league leading 4th double double of the season with a 23 point 10 rebound effort. He also had a single game career high in blocks with 7 blocked shots giving him 21 blocks on the year in just 5 games.
The Bobcats made multiple runs in the second half to keep the game close, but just could not quite overtake the Suns tonight. The Bobcats started the 3rd quarter on a 12-0 run before Beasley hit back-to-back shots to regain the momentum for the Suns. The Bobcats stayed in the game thanks to center BJ Mullens three point shooting. He hit 6 of 10 three pointers to lead the team in scoring with 24 points.
The Bobcats also got good efforts from Kemba Walker, 17 points and 8 assists, and Ben Gordon with 12 points and 5 assists.
The Bobcats could never take the lead in the second half but they did have it tied at 85 to begin the fourth. After a Markieff Morris dunk, Shannon Brown hit his first of 6 three pointers in the quarter to give the Suns a five point cushion. The Bobcats quickly cut it back down to two points before Brown hit is second three of the quarter to bring the lead back up to five again. The Bobcats had no match for Brown's 4th quarter shooting tonight.
Goran Dragic had a nice game for the Suns with 16 points and 8 assists. PJ Tucker provided some huge momentum rebounds and shots in the 4th quarter to help slow down a couple of Bobcats runs.
With the win, the Suns avoid a 3 game losing streak and up their record to 2-3 for the year. They return home on Friday night to take on Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
